5 Important Tips for choosing the best Gym in Walkden for you
CrossFit XI is a Walkden Gym, so naturally we want to help the community choose the best gym suited to them and their fitness.
After all, everyone has their own needs, (we'll touch on some of that below), and gyms have their own needs too. The magic happens when both align.
We just want to assist our community in selecting the best place where their fitness can thrive.
So here are 5 Important Tips to consider any gyms in the Walkden, Worsley area.
~ Ray Law
1. Location is key.
You’ll want a gym that's convenient for you to get to. Walkden and Worsley are both great locations for gyms, but traffic can also be deterrent if you are driving. You know it can be a bit of a nightmare close to the East Lancs (A580) Road, so be sure to consider where you'll mostly be commuting from and whether you have to contend with these high traffic areas.
2. What kind of facilities does the gym have?
Facilities don't just mean equipment! Think about access like car parking. Is it well-lit and does it feel safe? Think about on-site facilities too. Are there clean showers and changing rooms? Does it have ample space for classes? Is there enough room for you to workout? Does it have an app for your convenience?
Are the facilities suitable for what you and your fitness needs? There's no point in loads of equipment if you can't access any of it or waiting forever for it.
Shortlist a few gyms near you and ask for a show around and see if that particular gym works for you.
3. What are the membership options?
Some gyms offer pay-as-you-go, while others require a monthly subscription. A recent trend has seen a lot of independent gyms limit member access too. Often different tiered memberships which limit your access to the gym a certain number of times a week, commonly seen in smaller sized gyms. Some more traditional gyms still use the peak and off-peak models too so prices vary according to that. CrossFit XI offers unlimited access to gym, programming, group classes and more with a simple monthly subscription.
Be sure to compare pricing and find the option that best fits your budget AND what is on offer to best suit your needs. Search around as some will offer a free-pass for you to attend and try first.
4. How much are you really spending?
Think about your overall cost and not just the gym membership.
For example, do you have to pay for a membership and then personal training per session on top of that? That can add up really fast. What about gyms that already offer a group-PT structure in classes as part of their membership?
Another example, perhaps you're looking for a swimming pool to use every now and then. Total Fitness Walkden has one for sure but what if the rest of the package isn't what you're looking for? Instead, is it more cost effective to choose a gym you like and go visit a swimming pool on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Businesses can have loads of little additional add-ons. Cheaper membership doesn't always mean it's less in overall cost and definitely doesn't mean you'll find the most value from it.
5. What's the vibe?
Is it welcoming when you visit for the first time? Is the team professional? A gym is still a business at the end of the day and you're a paying customer so you'll want to feel comfortable and getting your value for money.
Do some research on the company too, see what they stand for, where they came from and their heritage. You'll want to be treated with respect and not just as a number to their sales targets.
One easy way is to explore some reviews on the business to see what members are saying. See CrossFit XI's Google reviews here and Facebook reviews here. Hopefully this will give you an insight into the gym vibe and how the gyms near to each other compare.
Be sure to enquire about a free-pass to try it out and get a feel for the environment first hand. After all, you'll be spending a lot of time there.
