Best shoes for CrossFit

Does having the right correct shoe matter?

~ Sophie White

In short, yes. Having the right shoes does matter when it comes to your sport. In CrossFit, you depend on a shoe that allows you to lift, run, climb, jump, and bounce without discomfort and helps avoid injuries.

Why one shoe doesn’t fit all.

Running shoes are created to cushion the whole midsole of the foot, reducing the stress placed on the heel, ankles, and toes during a run. They are not designed to hold your foot in place under heavy loads, meaning that your feet are not well supported if you're doing any heavy lifting. This could lead to injury as the shoes are not optimal for your activity. For general gym training, you’ll want a shoe that provides light support and has little to no curve in the sole, giving you the ability to grip the floor and use your toes for balance in strength and conditioning moves.

Will having the right shoe help me perform better in the gym?

Yes, you’ll feel more stable and therefore more confident when going into lifts, climbing ropes will be easier with the added grip you find on the sides of CrossFit shoes, and jumping on and off boxes will give you just the right amount of support and they are just a few things they have to offer.

They are an investment every new member should consider, or if money is tight until payday, find the flattest hard sole shoe in your wardrobe and ditch the running shoes for now.
